Niji-no-Matsubara
The pine forest is stretching like an arc of a rainbow along the Karatsu
Bay That is "Niji-no-Matsubara" of the doorway in karatsu. Terasawa
Shimanokami Hirotaka,the first lord of karatsu Clan, started planting the
pine trees on dune along the coastline for protection against the winds
and tides. It is said that nearly one million pine trees cluster together
for 5km in length, 1km in width. At present, The “Niji-no-Matsubara” is
considered one of the three most beautiful pine forests in Japan and designated
as scenic beauty spot.
The Niji-no-Matsubara was chosen as the 5th by the vote of TV program "the scenery of Japan to be left in the 21st century " of NHK(BS2)! |

Nanatsugama
The Nanatsugama Caves, designated as national natural monument, are cliffs
sharpened by the rough waves of the Genkai Sea. The frontage is 3 m and
its depth is 110 m, and you can enter there by boat at the time of high
tide.

Tategamiiwa
The huge basalt pillars standing thirty meter high are sitting close to each other harmoniously, so they,re called "Couple rocks."
The beach right in front of them is known as birthplace of surfing in Kyushu.
Many surfers from all over the world visit here to surf.

"Mikaeri falls and hydrangea"
Mikaeri falls is located at Ouchi in Karatsu city and selected for one
of "The Best 100 Waterfalls of Japan."
It's surrounded by seasonal beauty such as cherry blossoms in spring, deep
green in summer, and leaves changing color in red in autumn.
In addition, it's very popular with 40 kinds of hydrangeas. 40,000 of them
will welcome you in the season.
"Hydrangea Festival" is held for a month of June every year.
The flowers will be lighted up during night time and heal the hearts of
visitors.

"Kannon Falls"
Kannon Fallsis located in Nanayama, Karatsu city.
It's 45 meter high and 10 meter width.
From it's intense water current, some people call it "masculine falls."
The mountain river of 2km is the home of river fish like trout and other
species.
In August, "International Shower Climbing in Nanayama" is held
drawing many visitors to the valley. |

Hadomisaki
Hadomisaki is located at north west side of Higashi Matsuura peninsula.
It's famous for rough waves of Genkai sea and "Sazae no tsuboyaki",
which means farbos cooked in their own shells.
There are camping area, tennis court, beaches, green grass area and so
on. During summer time, filled with many people.
Hadomisaki is the perfect spot for fishing and diving.
You can also enjoy watching fish at pier underwater sail all the year around. |
