It is only for women that the all glazing pyramidal spa “Hana no yu” was
built at Toeisou’s within 10 thousand ㎡ garden.
During the season, 140 thousand light bulbs are spread all over the garden and after sunset the bath tub is surrounded by blue light.
You will feel like you are in the space.
The hot spring’s type is mild alkaline, with good effects for neuralgia, joint pain, gastrointestinal disease etc.
Also it’s said that it also good for skin enhancement.
Pyramidal spa “Hana no yu” is for women only but, there are many different types of nice bathroom in the facility.

There is a lodge called Kokumin Shukusya Irohajima.
It is the place where you can see the 48 islands which are floating on the Imari bay.
Irohajima’s hot spring is a sodium hydrogen carbonate spring and it is good for skin diseases, muscular pain etc.
And their hot springs is very mild and makes your skin smooth and body warm.
Also their amenity goods are selected natural material.
Without a doubt it’s a hot spring for skin care.
The bath house has a view of Iroha Islands. You can see the islands or boats on the blue sea during the day and in the evening enjoy the magnificent sunset.
Of course you can enjoy a day use or stay over with fresh seafood for dinner.

Genkai Kaijyou Onsen PALLAIR will make you relax deep-rooted with the view
of a blue ocean and the sound of wavelets in the evening.
It’s a simple hot spring, gentle water, good effects for neuralgic, recovery from exhaustion etc.

In the restaurant, fresh seafood from Genkai Sea are served.

Nananoyu is a natural hot spring facility for day visitors.
It is a high alkaline simple spring and good for skin enhancement.
The metasilicic acid which is the constituent part of the springs help with the creation of collagen and make a moisture skin.
People can enjoy the forest view and the blue sky from the open air bath.
After bathing, it’s time to enjoy a gourmet meal!!
One of the popular menu is “Shishi zukushi”2,500 yen (until March 15) which have all sorts of boar meat dishes.
These boars were caught in order to protect the farm products from being damaged.
Their meat is soft and free from smell because they eat acorns and hunters let out their blood as soon as they have been caught.
Nananoyu is serving 7 dishes of boar meat course called “Shishi Zukushi”(need a 3 days advance booking) such as deep- fried cutlet of loin meat, belly cooked with miso, rice wrap with meat, boar hot pot etc.

“Ebisu-yu” which is the only public bath in the Saga Prefecture
We can admire the seasonal flowers from the bathtub |

| Unchangeable appearance since renovated in 1070 |

It is the only public bath in Saga Prefecture “Ebisu-yu” connected with an Ebisu statue which is enshrined in the town.
Once there were more than 10 public baths in Karatsu, but nowadays this is the only one still carrying on even in whole Saga Prefecture.
With a history of 90 years renovated in 1970 that public bath is situated in Oishi-machi Karatsu city and it is called Ebisu-yu.
And its name is connected with the Ebisu statue enshrined in this town.
In the Ebisu-yu’s inner garden we can admire the seasonal flowers such as camellia or weeping ume blossom from the bathtub.
Ms.Shimazaki who keeps “Bandai” (custodian’s seat) said that she really enjoy chatting with customers.

■ “Fortune in, devils out” ~Tajima Shrine Setsubun Festival~ (Bean scattering ceremony)
|
Tajima Shrine is the oldest shrine in Hizenkoku (present Saga and Nagasaki
area), it is a guardian deity of the sea and attracts devotees.
On February 3, Setsubun Festival will be held at such a historical shrine.
The origin is not certain but it is a familiar custom for local residents.
It will be held twice, one in the morning for devotees and vaster and another in the afternoon for residents and the general public.
After the ceremony, the bean scattering and scatter red and white small mochi will begin inside the shrine to drive out noxious vapors. |

Also at the Sayohime Shrine (same area) which is for the god of love abalones
shells are dedicated with names have been written.
Abalones are difficult to separate once they stick together. That’s why it is called shell of love.
Why don’t you visit both shrines on the same day for the Setubun Festival?

■ Drive out evil spirits and welcome the New Year
Minato Yakujin Shrine Haifuri Festival (sprinkle ashes)
|
On February 11 (Sat) 2012, Haifuri Festival will be held at Minato Yakujin Shrine which is known for the god of purge noxious vapor.
The origin of this festival began when Empress Jingu sprinkled ashes onto the rough sea to make it calm, then she carried out that purpose in order to across the sea.
On the festival visitors are sprinkled with ashes by the Yakudoshi (unlucky year) male.
It is said that people who got ashes on will be in a perfect state of health.
There are many paintings of Ema (good luck charm) and bountiful harvest on the ceiling of the shrine oratory. And it is known for its power for blessing when we pray in that room.

Also around 4:00 pm the priest will shoot 4 arrows to pray for a bountiful
harvest and perfect state of health and it is called “Hoshashinji”

Karatsu 10 Mile Road Race will be held which is known as run through one
of the Japan most three beauty pine grove Nijinomatsubara.
This time about 20 runners will be invited for the 10 mile run and 10 km women altogether.
It is still chilly, but let’s go out to support all the runners!!

■ Karatsu Junior Music Festival 2012 Nishino Yoshihiko Music Award
~30 groups of vocalists & bands passed the primary examination~

Mr. Nishino Yoshihiko is from Karatsu and runs “The Music School Voice”
He is active in the first line as a music producer and has produced Ayaka, Yui, Maria and more.
He creates many activities and tries to pass a message to children that dreams are important and encourages them to go forward with it.
Last year’s grand prix winner and the merit award winner now belongs to a major production company in Tokyo after having taken some rigorous lesson sessions at his music school.
This time, 30 groups of vocalists and bands who passed the primary examination will challenge the vocal audition parts or music contest parts.
Further, last year’s winner of TEEN’S ROCK in HITACHINAKA and grand prix
winner of the 1st Karatsu Junior Music Festival girl’s band VICTORY will
be on stage as a guest.
From last year, “ON IKU Aid” has been held on the eve of the festival with bands which support this music festival’s ideology. And all income will be used for the operating expenses.

Karatsu is very popular for fresh seafood especially Yobuko’s “Squid Ikizukuri” (squid served alive).
And the 6th Karatsu / Yobuko Squid Proficiency Test which is a local knowledge test (mainly about squid) will be held.
The location will be Yobuko Morning Market Street in Yobuko town. (It might be changed due to the weather condition)
Ladies from the morning Market will be the cheerleaders!
Successful candidates will receive a badge, a certificate and a card.
They can get many benefits with this card when they use it at sponsor shops (about 40 shops).
At the same time the “Squid Master Test” which is more difficult will be held.
If you pass that test, your name will be written on the monument at the Morning Market Street.

where still have many kiln site of Karatsu ware.
And his own kiln is located in the nature of Hamatama-machi Karatsu.
His floral pattern’s works are done using the Mishima Technique with expressions of his own sense.

Saga Honoka is the original brand strawberry of Saga Prefecture which is a hybrid of Toyonoka (good taste) and Oonishiki (large size).
It’s sour less, fine sweet, beautiful red color and nice fusiform makes them very popular among the patisseries.
Also its harvesting season is longer as from middle of November up to June.
The climate of Karatsu area is ideal for its property. In fact Karatsu
area is 40 % of the Saga Honoka’s dispatch point in Saga prefecture.
The farmers start to harvest early in the morning and finish before 8 am in order to keep the quality.
Please enjoy these fresh strawberries picked in the morning!!

Strawberry’s most sweetness part is the tip. Start with other side until you reach the last part like this you can enjoy the sweetness of strawberry step by step.

Happy New Year! I wish you all the best for this year.
Karawan’s highlight scene of December was the “Yuru-Chara get together in Karatsu”.
Popular characters such as Hiko-nyan, Sento-kun altogether 41 characters from all around Japan performed on stage and made 50 thousand visitors happy^:^.

Yuru-Characters will gather at the peace memorial park in Hiroshima to support their own team (47 prefectures) of Japan Men’s Ekiden Competition.
Of course our Karawan-kun will be there to support the Saga prefecture team.

This month also I’ve love to introduce about Karatsu’s attractive part
which I found.
Karatsu Station where many people come and go.
Did you know that the handles of the doors are used Karatsu ware?
If you are locals, it might not be a surprised.
When I realized this by chance I felt that it is really lovely!
Not flashy, but discrete and present that’s Karatsu essence.
I wish to that Karatsu will increase more of theses essences. |

The feature of Karatsu Yatai is that these are inside of garage.
It started in 1955 to 1988 around the city hall area with the original style of street stall on the street.
After that, they were re-located to the garage under the railway and since then the business keep going on.
Kartsu Yatai are all air-conditioned, that is why they can even serve sashimi menu.
14 Karatsu Yatai, and on each shutter has a different painting of the 14 Hikiyama floats of Karatsu Kunchi which is the symbol of the town. And you can see it when the shops are closed!!

There are 14 yatai under the railway of JR Karatsu Station and it’s the first shop from the Station “Miyoko” run by Ms.Miyoko which has popular whale dishes.
She loves cooking, her father was a fisherman that’s way Miyoko ma gets used to be around whale foods.
Her assorted whale plate with vinegar miso or ginger soy sauce cost only 1,500 yen and it is very popular among customers.
Local noodle Champon also very nice, in fact even other shop’s owner go there to eat.
Local product Toubou Oyster in season is available too!!
“I can do this work because I enjoy it” said Ms. Miyoko.
She will recommend best side dishes with your liquor or how to enjoy different liquors available.
Even you are first time; you will spend a comfortable moment at Miyoko.
At that time there was a regular customer from Nagoya City and he said “I always stop in when I come to Karatsu”.
With such amiable conversations feels like beautiful lowers blooming everywhere in this shop.

The fourth shop from the JR Karatsu Station “Maruwa” open during the day time which is an unusual style for a yatai.
Its shutter has the painting of the 4th Hikiyama Yoshitune no kabuto of the Karatsu Kunchi on it!!
As there is an off-track betting office for the boat race just in front of Maruwa and it is always lively with many boat race fans.
