Niji-no-Matsubara
The pine forest is stretching like an arc of a rainbow along the Karatsu Bay, which is "Niji-no-Matsubara" of the doorway in karatsu. Terasawa Shimanokami Hirotaka,the first lord of the karatsu Clan, started planting the pine trees on the dune along the coastline for protection against the winds and tides. It is said about one million pine trees cluster for 5km in length, 1km in width. At present, The “Niji-no-Matsubara” is considered one of the three most beautiful pine forests in Japan along with Miho-no-Mtsubara and Kehi-no-Matsubara, and is designated as a scenic beauty spot.

Nanatsugama
The Nanatsugama Caves, designated as a national natural monument, are cliffs
sharpened by the rough waves of the Genkai Sea. The frontage is 3 m and
its depth is 110 m, and you can enter there by a boat at the time of a
high tide.

Harvest of the Genkai Sea
The Genkai Sea is the area where the Japan Current (the Kurile Current) and the Tsushima Current (the Kuroshio Current) join. The Sea is known as the high and rough sea, which is the fishing ground that is most suitable for coastal fishery because the inlet has a rich sawtooth coastline. The various marine products, of which the bodies are firm ,such as a lobster, a flatfish and a cuttlefish are unloaded in the Genkai Sea. |

Saga cow
Saga cows grow up in the natural environment which has the quiet climate and the abundant water and green. The meat is now a nationwide brand with the softness and the sweetness. Karatsu accounts for the great part with the production of the Saga cow, where the meat becomes sweet and soft because the cows grow up, receiving sea breeze on the Genkai Sea. |

Karatsu kunchi Festival
November 2, 3 and 4
Karatsu Kunchi Festival is an annual autumn festival of Karatsu Shrine in Minamijounai, Karatsu City,and it is said that the Festival begun at the end of the 16th century.
All of the 14 floats are respectively familiar characters in old tales such as a lion, a dragon, Urashima Taro and a tortoise, and an armet. A float is more than 7 meters in height and 2 tons in weight, and is made up in rich coloring such as red, blue and gold beautifully. Several hundred youths who wore matching happi coats pull the floats in high spirits in the street, which is highlight and is just a picture scroll in the present age. |
